Location: The Lake Valley Ranch is located approximately 15 miles south of Hillsboro, New Mexico. It is located along State Highway 27, just to the south of Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway, and is nearby the Lake Valley Historic (Mining) District.

The Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway encompasses a wide landscape, from high desert to forested mountains and vast stretches of mesa lands in between. There are miles of natural terrain that have not changed for hundreds of years. The wide-open spaces and distant vistas give one a feeling of isolation in a world apart. Views vary from rugged high peaks, man-made lakes, flat landscape with greasewood and cactus, to rough mountain terrain with heavy forests.

Major services including shopping, banking, dining, hardware, farm and ranch supplies, etc. can be found in the nearby town of Hatch, which is approximately 35 miles to the southeast. Alternatively, one can easily travel to the southwest to the town of Deming, which is approximately 50 miles away.

Access: The ranch is accessed via paved road known as State Highway 27.

Acreage: The property is intermingled with Bureau of Land Management and State lands, and is located nearby the Mimbres Mountain Range in the Gila National Forest.

Water: There are a total of 5 wells on the ranch: 4 windmills; 3 of which also have submersible pumps. The 5th well is solar powered. The ranch also has 5 earthen tanks. In addition to storage at the wells, there is one 20,000 and one 10,000 gallon storage tanks, which are both connected to approximately 7 miles of pipeline.


Farmland: The Lake Valley Ranch has 25+ acres of farmland next to the headquarters area that can be used to supplement the ranch operation. There are 3 irrigation wells; one is equipped with a submersible pump and can be used immediately, the other two are not currently in use.

Headquarters Improvements: The main home is situated in beautiful area, surrounded by older, established trees that tower over the improvements. The home is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath modern home containing approximately 2,600 square feet of heated living area. Adjacent to the home is an office/storage building that is about 345 square feet in size. There is a nearby guest/worker's home with 1 bedroom and 1 bath; it is approximately 670 square feet. Other improvements located at the headquarters area include a 45' x 50' large storage barn, 110' x 270' arena, 32' x 36' metal shop building, and 25' x 42' hay barn. The corrals are functional and include a set of 20,000 lb Thurman Scales. There are 2 wells at this location that service the homes and corrals.

History: One cannot overlook the rich history of the Lake Valley Ranch; it has been the setting of some fascinating past events. The headquarters location was once a stage coach stop in the 1880's. Most of the stage coach stop, including the depot, barns and corrals survive today, and what was the depot is now the main house. In addition, the original locations of the Lake Valley town site were on the ranch. Adding further to its spectacular history is the fact the last range war in the United States occurred on the ranch in the 1920's.

Other Improvements: Wonderfully placed near the large spring that provides water to the 6± acre recreational lake, is a 3 bedroom, 1 bath cabin containing approximately 1,230 square feet of living area. It too is surrounded by huge trees that loom over the area.

It should also be noted that here is a dirt landing strip on the ranch.

Wildlife: The property provides excellent natural habitat for mule deer, pronghorn antelope, javelina, mountain lion, black bear, quail, dove, and other small mammals.

Topography: The ranch consists primarily of Chihuahuan desert grassland, interspersed with scrub mesquite, greasewood and a few juniper trees.

Carry Capacity: 374 AUY total. If the property is divided, parcel one will have a 313 head permit and parcel two will have a 61 head permit.

Comments: The deeded land is part of an innovative conservation development and is occasionally used for passive, low impact recreational uses by adjacent homeowners. There is a stunning 6± acre lake on the ranch that is included in the "recreational area" for the benefit of the adjacent homeowners. It is filled by means of a naturally occurring spring and is currently stocked with bass, bluegill, and catfish.
